Warranty Information

Work We Stand Behind

Every piece of metalwork that leaves our shop is covered by a written warranty. We build to last, and we back that up in writing. This page explains exactly what's covered, for how long, and how to make a claim if something goes wrong.

Powder Coat Finish

5 Years

Against chipping, peeling, and premature fading under normal conditions.

⚙️

Galvanizing

Up to 25 Years

Corrosion protection on hot-dip galvanized surfaces, per ASTM standards.

🔩

Hardware

1 Year

Latches, hinges, rollers, and mechanical components we supply.

Warranty periods begin at the date of final installation or delivery. Full terms are described in the sections below.

01

Workmanship Warranty — 2 Years

We warrant all fabrication, welding, and installation work performed by Ironclad Forge & Welding for a period of two (2) years from the date of final installation or delivery.

During this period, if any defect in material or workmanship appears that is attributable to our work, we will repair or replace the affected component at no charge to you. This includes failed welds, structural defects, improperly fitted assemblies, and installation errors.

What's Covered

  • Failed or cracked welds on work we performed
  • Structural failures of components we fabricated
  • Loose or improperly anchored installations
  • Misalignment of moving assemblies (gates, doors, moving parts)
  • Defects in hardware we supplied and installed
  • Fabrication errors that affect function or appearance

What's Not Covered

  • Normal cosmetic wear including surface scratches, minor dents, and expected patina development
  • Damage caused by misuse, abuse, or accidents
  • Damage from unauthorized modifications or third-party repairs
  • Damage from environmental events (flood, fire, storm, impact)
  • Failure of substrate or structure to which our work is attached
  • Cosmetic changes caused by exposure to chemicals or pollutants
02

Finish Warranties

Finish warranties vary by coating system. The warranty that applies to your project is documented in your closeout paperwork.

Powder Coat

5 Years

Warranted against cracking, peeling, chipping, and excessive fading under normal environmental exposure. Salt air, industrial pollutants, and physical abrasion are excluded.

Hot-Dip Galvanizing

Up to 25 Years

Warranted against rust-through based on ASTM A123 and A153 standards for atmospheric exposure. Actual lifespan varies by environment and thickness of coating.

Two-Stage Paint

3 Years

Warranted against premature failure including blistering, peeling, and excessive fading under normal conditions. Field touch-up is considered routine maintenance, not a warranty issue.

Wax, Oil, Patina

1 Year

Warranted against application defects only. These finishes are intended to develop character over time and require periodic reapplication to maintain appearance.

Black Oxide

1 Year

Warranted against rust-through of the finish under normal interior conditions. Exterior use requires an additional sealant and periodic refresh.

Mill / Raw Finish

No Warranty

Raw finishes are chosen for their natural aesthetic and behavior. Changes in appearance over time — including rust on Corten and oxidation on aluminum — are intended characteristics, not defects.

03

Hardware & Component Warranty — 1 Year

Mechanical hardware and components we supply — latches, hinges, rollers, locks, automation components — are warranted against manufacturing defects for one (1) year from installation.

This warranty is separate from any manufacturer warranty that may accompany the hardware. When hardware fails within its manufacturer warranty period, we will handle the claim on your behalf and complete the repair or replacement.

Examples of Covered Hardware

  • Gate latches and locks that fail mechanically
  • Hinges that seize or break under normal use
  • Rollers and track components with premature wear
  • Automation components with manufacturing defects
04

General Exclusions

The following are not covered under any of our warranties. This list applies to all warranty types described on this page.

  • Damage from misuse, neglect, or improper operation
  • Damage from unauthorized repair or modification by third parties
  • Cosmetic weathering, patina, and expected appearance changes
  • Damage caused by storms, floods, fires, or other force majeure events
  • Failure of the structure or substrate to which our work is installed
  • Damage from exposure to corrosive chemicals, salt beyond normal environmental levels, or industrial pollutants
  • Consequential or incidental damages of any kind
  • Costs of removal, reinstallation, or site access beyond the warranty work itself
  • Products or work performed by others, even if coordinated by us
  • Warranty transfers outside the original property owner or client

Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages. Where prohibited by law, such exclusions do not apply.

How to File a Warranty Claim

If you believe you have a warranty issue, contact us as soon as possible. Claims are handled by our shop manager and typically resolved within 5–10 business days.

  1. 1

    Contact Us

Call (207) 450-1094 or email [email protected]. Provide your project reference number if you have it (it's on your invoice and closeout documents).

  2. 2

    Describe the Issue

Tell us what's happening and, if possible, send photos. This helps us understand the problem before we visit and often speeds up resolution.

  3. 3

    Inspection

We schedule an inspection at your location, typically within 5 business days. For covered issues, we'll bring tools and materials to complete the repair on the same visit when possible.

  4. 4

    Repair or Replace

If the issue is covered under warranty, we repair or replace the affected component at no charge to you. If the issue is not covered, we'll provide a written quote for the repair.

  5. 5

    Documentation

We document the inspection, repair, and outcome in your project file. This protects both of us for future reference and keeps our warranty history accurate.

06

Warranty Transfer & Sale

Our workmanship warranty is not automatically transferable, but we can transfer it to a new owner under specific conditions.

If you sell the property where our work is installed, the new owner may request a warranty transfer within 90 days of the sale. We require:

  • Written notice from the original client confirming the sale
  • Contact information for the new owner
  • Documentation of the original installation date and project reference
  • Acknowledgment from the new owner that the warranty terms have been provided and accepted

Warranty transfers preserve the remaining term of the original warranty. They do not extend the warranty period. Finish warranties are generally non-transferable as finishes depend on how the property is maintained.

07

Limits of Liability

Our obligation under this warranty is limited to the repair or replacement of the defective work at our discretion.

This warranty is the exclusive warranty provided by Ironclad Forge & Welding and is in lieu of all other warranties, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the original invoice amount of the work in question.

By accepting delivery or installation of our work, you agree to the terms described on this page. Warranty coverage is governed by the laws of the State of Maine.

If you have questions about how these terms apply to your specific project, please contact us before work begins. We're happy to review them with you in detail.
